Superfood & Tradition

Handcrafted in Brazil by family-owned factories, Bernardo shoes are made from locally sourced materials. We take pride in supporting the local communities and their land to create refined, sustainable shoes that can walk you through life. To show our deep appreciation to this amazing country, we want to share a healthy, yet tasty and easy Brazilian recipe, perfect for the hot summer days ahead: the açai bowl.

The açai berries are grown in the Amazon, where they’ve been a staple in the diet of the indigenous tribes as source of good energy for thousands of years. Packed full of vitamins and minerals, this superfood is high in fiber and antioxidants.

Beloved by surfers everywhere, this delicious Brazilian blend was first adopted by Hawaiians and has now spread around the world: and for a good reason! These topping-loaded frosty purple smoothie bowls are tangy and refreshing.

Commercially prepared açai bowls can be often high in sugar. Don’t fall for it! Purchase your organic ingredients and combine them together yourself. The blending is as easy as the garnishing is fun!

What you will need:

  • Pure unsweetened açai puree (frozen)
  • Frozen bananas, strawberries, blueberries or mango
  • Liquid emulsifier, such as fruit juice or milk of choice
  • Honey or peanut butter (optional)
  • Your choice of toppings such as granola, fresh cut fruit and peanut butter

Four Easy Steps

  1. Slice up your banana, strawberries, and blueberries (or mangos) and place them on a baking tray and place in the freezer until completely frozen
  2. Once frozen, add to a blender with the fruit juice or milk of choice, and if you’d like honey or peanut butter
  3. On a lower setting, blend together the frozen açai, banana, strawberries, and blueberries until it’s smooth and only add liquid when necessary
  4. Divide the smoothie into bowls with toppings of your choice. Best enjoyed immediately after preparing
How to make an Acai Bowl

These bowls are vibrant and full of color and flavor! The funniest part is serving them: there are infinite ways to top them!

Add spirulina powder to obtain a light blue açai bowl. Alternatively, blend extra strawberry for a more red, pinkish result. If your favorite color is orange mix frozen mango and pineapple.

Once the ingredients are mixed and you obtained the color and texture that you prefer, pour the blend in a natural organic coconut bowl.

Now it’s time to get creative with your favorite toppings! Fresh cut fruits, dried fruits, seeds, nuts, peanut or almond butter, granola, cocoa beans, and every other happy ingredient. Use flower or heart shaped cutters on the topping fruits for that extra special touch. Bon apetite!
